Knoppix 6.1 und GeForce FX5200

Hallo,
Ich hab bisher noch nix mit Linux am Hut gehabt. Bin also neuling.
Ich habe die Version 6.1 auf USB Stick und kann mit max. Auflösung von 800x600 starten.
Wenn ich versuche mit höherer Auflösung zu starten kommt die Meldung dass der Modus nicht definiert sei.
Wenn ich dennoch boote fährt der Rechner runter, bevor die Graphische Oberfläche erscheint.
Wie kann man das Problem lösen?
Brauch ich einen Treiber dafür?
Ich habe versucht mit dem Treiber von nvidia.
Der lässt sich nicht installieren, er sagt, dass er kein passenden Kernel hat.
Ich hoffe Ihr könnt mir helfen.

Hallo!

Ich verwende eine Geforce Ti4200 und somit den gleiche Treiber für X11, wie man /var/log/Xorg.0.log entnehmen kann. Folgende könntest Du versuchen:

Am Bootprompt den Bildschirm explizit angeben, z. B.

Danach die grafische Umgebung starten durch Eingabe von

Wenn der Rechner jetzt nicht zusammenbricht, könnte es sein, dass die grafische Umgebung sofort wieder beendet wird, ohne dass der Rechner herunterfährt. In dem Fall solltest Du nun über eine Log-Datei /var/log/Xorg.0.log verfügen, die vielleicht eine Erklärung liefert, was schief gelaufen ist.

Hallo,
Ich hab dein Vorschlag zweimal probiert.
Der Bildschirm blieb schwarz und beim ersten mal war oben links im Eck ein cursor zu sehen, beim zweiten mal nur schwarzer Bildschirm.
Weiter ist nichts passiert. Keine Reaktion mehr

Hallo!

Mit der Tastenkombination Strg-Alt-F1 kannst Du zum Terminal zurückkehren, in dem Du startx eingegeben hast. Dort drückst Du Strg-C, um den X-Server zu beenden. Jetzt solltest Du Dir die Logdatei /var/log/Xorg.0.log ansehen können. Darin gibt es eine Liste mit den unterstützten Bildschirmmodi.

Am besten kopierst Du die Logdatei auf einen USB-Stick. Das kannst Du folgendermaßen tun, wenn Du wieder im Terminal bist. Zuerst steckst Du den USB-Stick in einen freien USB-Port. Dann gibst Du

fdisk -l

ein, um herauszufinden, welchen Gerätenamen der Stick bekommen hat. Meistens ist es /dev/sdb, wen Knoppix bereits auf dem USB-Stick installiert ist. Wenn Du das herausgefunden hast, führst Du

mkdir /media/stick
mount /dev/sdb1 /media/stick

aus. Anschließend werden die Logdatei kopiert und der USB-Stick wieder aus dem Dateisystem entfernt:

Der USB-Stick kann wieder entfernt werden.

Hallo,

Beim Booten von USB mit 1024x768 ist der Rechner immer hängen geblieben.

Ich hab jetzt direkt von DVD gebootet mit 1024x768. Danach ist der Rechner auch hochgefahren aber mit der Auflösung 800x600. Daher konnte ich die Log-Datei auslesen:
