Knoppix 7.0.5 und Ati Mobility M6 (Radeon 7000)

Hi!

Habe Knoppix 7.0.5 auf meinem geliebten Toshiba Satellite installiert. Probiere schon länger herum, aber ich schaffe es nicht, die Treiber für die Grafikkarte korrekt zum laufen zu bekommen. Vielleicht kann mir jemand hierbei Hilfestellung geben? Die Karte wird beim booten korrekt erkannt, aber es werden immer die Mesa-Treiber geladen. Mit denen friert der Rechner zwischendurch gelegentlich ab und Compiz alle paar Minuten. Anbei mal meine Logs von Xorg.conf (gerade frisch installiert, nachdem ich mal wieder am Treiberproblem rumgefrickelt hab):

danke für die Antwort. Den Bootparameter hatte ich schon. Gut, löst das Problem mit Compiz :) Aber das einfrieren kommt trotzdem. Was könnte ich noch probieren? Die radeon-Treiber, die die radeon 7000 wohl noch unterstützen hab ich drauf, werden beim start aber nicht geladen. Ich denke, ich verstehe da was grundlegendes nicht...

Es gibt eine Protokolldatei /var/log/Xorg.0.log, in der man Fehlermeldungen daran erkennt, dass die Zeile mit (EE) beginnt.

Hilft es, dem Kernel den Parameter radeon.agpmode=-1 zu übergeben?

(EE) habe ich keine gefunden (II) stattdessen umsomehr. Das hier ist der Inhalt der logdatei. Hab da mal durchgeschaut, aber da steht nur Bahnhof :)

Bei ubuntuforums.org gibt es HOWTO: 3D Acceleration in ATI Mobility Radeon M6 LY (and possibly others) Darin wird eine xorg.conf für den ATI Mobility Radeon M6 LY beschrieben, die man an Stelle der von Knoppix generierten ausprobieren könnte. Ich stelle mir das so vor: Zunächst wird die xorg.conf beispielsweise im Verzeichnis /home/knoppix mit einem Texteditor (z. B. Leafpad) erstellt. Dann kopiert man diese Datei im LXTerminal mit dem Befehl

sudo cp /home/knoppix/xorg.conf /etc/X11/ 
und startet den Rechner neu, ohne den Bootparamter no3d zu verwenden. Sollte der Rechner wieder Probleme bereiten, boote man beim nächsten Mal in den Runlevel 2 ("knoppix 2"), lösche die xorg.conf wieder und reboote

Hallo Klaus! vielen dank! das howto kenne ich. hatte die schonmal drin, aber mit Teilen der von knoppix erstellten. da sah die Grafik ganz übel aus. ich werde es heute Abend trotzdem nochmal nur mit der allein ausprobieren. Frage: welcher Unterschied besteht darin, die xorg.conf über die Kommandozeile zu kopieren und nicht über pcman als root? bzw. könnte ich das ja alles über die grafische Oberfläche lösen. versteh mich nicht falsch, will nur nachvollziehen, warum.

Solange man die Schreibberechtigung besitzt, ist es egal, auf welche Weise die /etc/X11/xorg.conf erstellt bzw. bearbeitet wird.

Bei der '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' muß man die zweite Zeile löschen; andernfalls werden selbst geänderte Werte wieder von Knoppix überschrieben.

Hallo Klaus, hallo Werner,

danke. Habe die Config von dem howto ausprobiert, keinen Erfolg.

Habe zudem auch noch eine config von thinkwiki probiert, mit den "modules" von dem ersten howto. Da ist die Rede von Galium und VMware. Das ganze läuft leidlich langsam (vmware?) und Compiz stürzt wieder ab. Aber immerhin mal was anderes ;)

edit2: Hm. Hab mir nochmal den Profiler vorgenommen. Die Karte wird zwar vom Namen her erkannt, aber technisch stimmt das was nicht. es werden 128 mb Ram erkannt, obwohl das Teil nur 16 MB hat.. ?

Für radeon.agpmode kann man noch andere Werte ausprobieren, siehe auf http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature den Abschnitt "Linux kernel parameters".

Wie man auf der Seite http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonProgram lesen kann, hat Compiz Fusion den Eintrag "UNKNOWN" für den R100 Grafikchip. Man sollte also davon ausgehen, dass irgendetwas noch nicht optimal gelöst wurde.

Hallo Klaus! Vielen Dank für deine Antwort. Von Compiz habe ich mich erstmal komplett verabaschieded. Hast du eine Idee, wie ich dem System die richtigen Ram-Größe vermittel?

Im KNOPPIX-Verzeichnis gibt es eine Datei knoppix-cheatcodes.txt. Darin findet man den Cheatcode "mem".

Hallo Klaus! Danke dafür! Aber gibt das nicht die Ram-Größe vom System an sich an? Ich meinte die Größe vom Graka-Ram..? :)

Ich habe grad was in den ubuntu-foren gefunden. da meint jemand, dass man den ram ebenfalls in der xorg.conf festlegen kann. kennt jemand den befehl?

Du könntest den Kernelparamter radeon.vramlimit=16 ausprobieren. Aus der Dokumentation des Radeon-Moduls geht leider nicht hervor, ob es eher radeon.vramlimit=16M heißen sollte. Allerdings wird eine ganze Zahl vom Typ int erwartet.

Hallo Klaus!

Bei radeon.vramlimit=16 passiert nix. Hänge ich das M hinten dran, wird der Mesa mit VMware wieder geladen :( Schade. Ich schau mal weiter, vlt. finde ich ja nochwas...
